ST. GREGORY

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel “ST. GREGORY”, a 2010 built 20,809gt bulk carrier. Having previously called at Chornomorsk, UKR and intending to steam to Istanbul, TUR the vessel ran hard aground in the Laconian Gulf to the south of Greece.

It is reported that the vessel was carrying 30,600 tonnes of Sulphur due to be delivered to Sfax, TUN. The vessel was holed with water ingress in the bulkhead however, no marine pollution is reported. Lightering operations are highly likely with salvage services expected to be complicated and expensive. The full extent of loss to the vessel and cargo has yet to be determined but is expected to be substantial.
