New Casualty - SM JEJU LNG1 - Collision

Incident Date: 17th February 2024

Vessel:              SM JEJU LNG1

IMO No.           9830745

Type:                Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier

Incident:          Collision

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel SM JEJU LNG1, a Panama flag, 9370 gt, 2019 Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier which reportedly came in contact with a cargo vessel six kilometres southwest of Yeodo Island, off the coast of South Korea. The starboard side of SM Jeju LNG1 was severely damaged and a gas leak occurred. All the crew and personnel on board both the vessels are reported to have been rescued safely. The Wando Coast Guard is said to have sent rescue vessels, teams and helicopters to the scene and remained on site in an effort to prevent any oil spills or further damage.

The Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier is operated by Korea Gas Corp and had previously called at Anjeong and Okpo in South Korea. As a result of this incident it is highly likely that there will be delays to cargo delivery and cargo owners might be required to provide securities before delivery of cargo.
