New Casualty - ONE ORPHEUS - Steering Failure
Incident Date: 6th of December 2023
Vessel: ONE ORPHEUS
IMO No. 9313008
Type: Container ship
Incident: Steering failure
We have learned of an incident involving the ONE ORPHEUS, a Singapore flag, 99543 gt, 2008 built, a container vessel which reportedly experienced a steering failure as a result of its rudder breaking down. The vessel subsequently collided with a floating bridge in the Suez Canal. It seems that the vessel has now been refloated by the Suez Canal Authorities.
The vessel with a capacity of 9040 TEU is operated by NYK and previously called at Singapore, Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe and Shimizu. As a result of this incident it is highly likely that there will be delays to cargo delivery and cargo owners might be required to provide securities before delivery of cargo.
