New Casualty - MSC RACHELE - Engine Fire Room and Explosion

We have learned that the vessel MSC RACHELE, a Panama flag, 90,745gt, 2005 built, fully cellular containership has suffered an explosion and engine room fire 22nd June 2022.
The 8,238teu containership which was en-route from Naples, Italy, to Fos-sur-Mer, France, having previously called at ports in the United States when an explosion occurred in the engine room.
It is understood that the three crew members have been evacuated and whilst the fire appears to be under control, the Vessel is without power and has been towed to Fos-sur-Mer anchorage for further monitoring and investigations.
It is likely that cargo losses will result from this incident, and there is the possibility that Owners may declare General Average. In this regard, W.E. Cox have our own in-house surveyors available to attend on site as required as well as a dedicated claims, recovery and Casualty team.
