NEW CASUALTY – MENTARI CRYSTAL

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel MENTARI CRYSTAL, an Indonesia flag, 1992 built, 2,725gt, general cargo ship with container capacity, which capsized and sank at the Teluk Lamong Terminal in East Java, Indonesia, on 15th November. No casualties were reported.

MENTARI CRYSTAL operates between Indonesian ports but could have been carrying transhipped cargo emanating from or destined for other locations.

The vessel owner has reportedly committed to recover all 137 containers and to salvage the vessel as soon as possible, to avoid obstructing operations at the port. The cause of the incident is being investigated.
