W.E. Cox have learnt of an incident involving the GRANDE BRASILE, a Maltese flag vessel, 56,660GT, 1,302TEU fully cellular containership. The GRANDE BRASILE was sailing from Antwerpen, Belgium enroute to Le Havre, France when she suffered an explosion and/or fire whilst transiting the Dover Strait, about 15nm of Ramsgate, UK on 18th February 2025.
It is understood that the GRANDE BRASIL, which is laden with containers and cars, was able to contain the fire after onboard fire-suppression systems were activated.
The GRANDE BRASILE is owned by ACL Vessel Two H1696A AB, managed by ACL Atlantic Container Line AB and operated by Grimaldi Group S.p.A. She trades between West Africa and Northern Europe.
As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with significant cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
