Incident:             Fire

We have learned that the vessel CMA CGM RABELAIS, a Malta flag, 72,884gt, 2010 built, fully cellular containership has suffered a fire amongst its deck cargo of containers 6th April 2022.

The 6,570teu containership which serves CMA CGM’s Asia Subcontinent Express shuttle service between the Asia and the Indian sub-continent had previously called at Chinese Ports and Singapore and was destined for Indian Ports when the fire erupted as the vessel was some 60nm off the Indonesian Coast.

It is understood that the fire continues to burn but is under control and that the Vessel is heading to Port Klang, Malaysia, where an injured crewmember will be evacuated. It is further understood that a fire-fighting tug is on the scene and will escort the vessel to Port.

It is likely that cargo losses will result from this incident and W.E. Cox have our own in house surveyors available to attend on site as required.
