New Casualty Advice - GROTON - Reported Missile Attack

Incident Date:   3rd August 2024

Vessel:                GROTON

IMO No.             9246310

Type:                   Fully Cellular Containership

Incident:             Reported Missile Attack

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel GROTON, a Liberia flag, 27322 gt, 2002 built, fully cellular containership, which was hit by a missile 12 nautical miles east of Yemen’s port of Aden on 3 August 2024. Reportedly, the projectiles hit a cargo hold and the crew were safe and unharmed in the deckhouse. As of 4 August, the vessel is at anchor just off the port of Djibouti.

The fully cellular container vessel with a capacity of 2500teu is managed by Conbulk Shipmanagement Corporation and had previously called in UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iraq. As a result of this incident it is highly likely that there will be delays to cargo delivery and cargo owners might be required to provide securities before delivery of cargo.
