We have learned of an incident involving the vessel “MSC DANIELA”, a 2008 built 151559gt fully cellular container ship. Having previously called at Yantian, PRC and Singapore and intending to steam to Southern European ports, a fire erupted in seas off Colombo.

The vessel changed course to Colombo to seek assistance and is currently being attended to by four tugs and two fast response navy craft. It is understood the fire is not yet extinguished and the vessel is drifting near Colombo Anchorage. It is unclear when the vessel will be brought to anchor likely due to safety concerns.
