We have learned of an incident involving vessel HELENE RICKMERS, a Marshall Islands flag, 1998 built, 16,801gt fully cellular containership, on a voyage from Singapore to Papua New Guinea and Australia, having also called at Malaysia.

On 2nd January 2015, HELENE RICKMERS ran aground near Alotau, Papua New Guinea and remained aground as of this morning. It is reported that Salvors have been appointed by authorities to assist refloating.

We note that the same vessel ran aground at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, in November 2014 but, on that occasion, was refloated without any difficulty.
