CASUALTY UPDATE – NORTHERN JUPITER – GA – Engine room fire

Further to our initial advice concerning an incident involving the vessel NORTHERN JUPITER, it has since been confirmed that there was a fire in the engine room on 4th January and the fire alarm was activated.

The crew commenced firefighting measures immediately and with the vessel safely anchored in position 01-34N 103-01E, a stand by tug was ordered for safety reasons. On 10th January 2020 NORTHERN JUPITER was towed to Singapore as port of refuge, where repair options are currently being evaluated by Shipowners. It has not yet been decided where repairs necessary for the safe prosecution of the laden voyage will be undertaken.

Stichling Hahn Hilbrich are appointed as General Average Adjusters, and have indicated an initial GA estimate of 10% of contributory values. We confirm that W E Cox Claims Group has received and continues to receive instructions to represent a growing number of cargo interests.
