Casualty Report - MAERSK FRANKFURT - Fire (Update)

Incident Date:    19th July 2024
Vessel:                  MAERSK FRANKFURT
IMO No.              9969065
Type:                   Fully Cellular Containership
Incident:             Fire

The vessel reportedly has both power and propulsion and is being kept at a distance of more than 24 nautical miles at all times. The Indian Coast Guard (“ICG”) is maintaining physical presence at site with at least two offshore patrol vessels engaged in firefighting. Of the 21-member foreign crew, a Filipino national is missing. The other crew members remain safe and are in good health. The vessel is structurally stable and remains operational. The Owners have contracted a specialised salvage agency to take over firefighting efforts and for further disposal of the vessel. As of today, five salvors are on board the vessel and the agency has mobilised tugs to supplement ICG efforts.

General Average (“GA”) has also been declared and Average Adjusters (Messrs RHL) have been appointed to collect GA securities. The Adjusters do not presently have any details of the ETA or port of refuge and the cash deposit / reserve level has yet to be set.
