W.E. Cox have learned of an incident involving the SOLONG, a Portuguese (Madeira) Flag vessel, 7,852GT, 803TEU, fully cellular containership, which collided with the STENA IMMACULATE, a USA Flag vessel, 29,854GT, combined chemical and oil tanker off the coast of East Yorkshire, UK.

We understand that a number of people have abandoned the SOLONG and STENA IMMACULATE, which are both currently on fire. We also understand that the HM Coastguard is currently co-ordinating the emergency response to this casualty and that a Coastguard helicopter and lifeboats have since been dispatched to assist.

The SOLONG is owned by ms Solong Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Company KG and is operated by CMA CGM SA. She trades in Europe and was enroute from Grangemouth, UK to Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The STENA IMMACULATE is owned by Stena Bulk Marine Services LLC managed by Crowley Government Services Incorporated. She trades in Europe, USA and West Africa and was enroute from Agio Theodoroi, Greece to Killingholme, UK.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with significant cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
