CASUALTY NOTICE – GRANDE AMERICA – FIRE

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel “GRANDE AMERICA”, a 1997 built 27,965gt Vehicle Carrier with container capacity which caught fire some 263 kilometres south-west of Pointe de Penmarc’h, France 10th March 2019.

It is understood that the Vessel was carrying cars from Germany to Morocco when a fire started in the container section of the Vessel. All crew have been evacuated and have been recued by Royal Navy Frigate HMS ARGYLL.

The fire continues to burn and weather conditions are hampering efforts to rescue the Vessel.
