NEW CASUALTY - MAERSK EUREKA - Fuel pump breakdown
We have learned of an incident involving the vessel MAERSK EUREKA, a Singapore flag, 142,121 gt, 2012 built fully cellular containership, which reportedly suffered a fuel pump breakdown whilst on a laden voyage from Yokohama to Long Beach, having previously called at Ningbo and Yangshan. As a result, the vessel has been unable to restore main engine stability, apparently not under control and drifting/moving slowly in a northerly direction.
It is understood that MAERSK EUREKA may need to be towed to destination or other port of refuge, which may give rise declaration of General Average &/or a Salvage claim.
