CASUALTY UPDATE#1 – MAERSK ESSEN
Further to our initial Casualty Report we have been advised that the Fully Cellular Containership “MAERSK ESSEN”, which reported losing some 750 containers overboard in the Pacific on 16th January 2021, will no longer be calling at Los Angeles due to Port congestion.
It is understood that the Vessel will now be calling at the Port of Lazaro Cardena in Mexico with a scheduled arrival date of 26th January 2021.
The Port of Lazaro Cardena has a dedicated container terminal owned by Maersk sister company APM Terminals and we have been advised that the choice of terminal will allow for swifter discharge of containers and damage inspection. Significant damages and delay of onward shipment is still anticipated however, and W.E. Cox Claims Group are actively investigating this matter with our surveyors, CWH Johnsons International, on standby to attend at the Port of Lazaro Cardena.
If we can be of any assistance in arranging surveys, adjusting potential losses, or undertaking recovery action please do not hesitate to contact us.
