W.E. Cox have learnt of an incident involving the ASL BAUHINIA, a Hong Kong flag vessel, 18,526GT, 1,911TEU fully cellular containership. The ASL BAUHINIA was enroute from Jebel Ali towards the Suez Canal when she suffered an explosion and/or fire involving hazardous cargo about 12nm of Hodeidah, Yemen in the southern Red Sea on 27th January 2025.

It is understood that the ASL BAUHINIA has been abandoned and left adrift, with its crew rescued and uninjured. The ASL BAUHINIA currently poses a navigational hazard and investigations on the cause of the casualty are ongoing.

The ASL BAUHINIA is owned by Fortune Geneva Shipping Limited and managed by Shanghai ASL Shipmanagement Company Limited. She trades between China, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and the UAE.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with significant cargo loss and damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
