W.E. Cox have learnt of an incident involving the MANASOTA, a Liberian flag vessel, 88426GT bulk carrier which suffered a fire in her engine room near Mauritius on 15th January 2025 whilst enroute from Cape Town, South Africa to Singapore.

It is understood that the fire has been extinguished and that arrangements are now being made for a tug to assist the MANASOTA from Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The MANASOTA is owned by Magenta Owning Company Limited and managed by TMS Dry Limited. She trades between China, India, Singapore and South Africa. The MANASOTA was previously at anchorage in Boffa, Guinea.

As a result of this casualty, cargo deliveries will likely be delayed, with possible cargo damage. The situation may also give rise to General Average that will require Cargo interests to provide General Average Security prior to cargo being released at destination.
