We have learned of an incident involving the vessel CMA CGM MISSOURI, a Liberia flag, 2016 built, 102,931gt fully cellular containership, which ran aground in the Suez Canal while en route from Port Said to Jeddah, having previously called at Constanta, Odessa and Perama.
It is reported that CMA CGM MISSOURI experienced a blackout while transiting the Suez Canal with the southbound convoy. Her rudder is believed to have jammed, and was damaged as the vessel came into contact with the canal bank. Although another vessel, MAERSK HANOI, was caused to halt, the Suez Canal remained open for traffic following the grounding and the consequent refloating operation.
The exact cause of the grounding is as yet unknown and a full investigation into the incident will be conducted. Meanwhile, CMA CGM MISSOURI is being moved to safe anchorage at Great Bitter Lake for survey and underwater inspection. Managers have advised that the vessel’s hull integrity remains intact.
