Incident: Collision and grounding
We have learned of an incident involving the vessels SHAHRAZ and SAMUDRA SAKTI I, both reported to have run aground in Singapore Strait, south of St John Island, having tried to avoid collision.
SHARAZ, IMO 9349576, is an Iran flag, 2008 built, 74,175gt fully cellular containership, en route from Port Klang to Yangshan, China.
SAMUDRA SAKTI I, IMO 9238258, is an Indonesia flag, 2001 built, 14,446gt bulk carrier, en route from Belawan to Bayah, southwest Java.
SHARAZ was struck portside, sustaining potentially serious damage and both vessels remain aground near the collision site in the waters off Batam, Indonesia.
