NEW CASUALTY – NORTHERN JUPITER – Engine failure GA declared

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel NORTHERN JUPITER, a Portugal flag, 2010 built, 94,407gt fully cellular containership currently operating service between South East Asian and Australian ports, but potentially carrying transhipped cargo to/from anywhere worldwide.

The vessel, laden with in excess of 8,800TEU, was navigating the Malacca Straits when she suffered a main engine breakdown on 4th January 2020, and is currently reported to be at Singapore for inspection and repair.

General Average was declared and W E Cox Claims Group has received instructions to represent the interests of part cargo onboard.
