We have learned of an incident involving the vessel “APL AUSTRIA”, a 2007 built 71867gt fully cellular container ship. Having previously called at Reunion, FRA and intending to steam to Cape Town, ZAF the vessel caught fire off the coast of South Africa.

The vessel was brought into the Port of Nqura where two fire-fighting tugs have been mobilised. Whilst there is currently no information available regarding the extent of any losses, the below video demonstrates the severity of the matter:
