We have learned of an incident involving the vessel “ANTAIOS”, a 1999 built 18,095gt bulk carrier. Having previously called at Montevideo, Uruguay and steaming to Cape Town, South Africa it is reported the vessel suffered an engine room fire approximately 860 miles off Cape Town.

The damages resulting from the fire caused severe flooding and when this became uncontrollable, the Captain made a distress call ordering the crew to abandon ship.
