It is being reported that the vessel MAERSK TIGRIS a 2014 built 52,600gt Fully cellular Containership, was detained today by Iranian forces ‘for trespassing in Iran’s territorial waters’. It is also reported however that the Iranian navy seized the ship at the request of the Iran Ports Authority under a court order.

The exact nature of the incident is not clear, but it appears that the vessel was boarded.

Bound for Jebel Ali, UAE, the vessel had previously called at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Port Said, Egypt; Turkish Ports and Novorossiysk, Russia.

There are reports that MAERSK TIGRIS had been directed to Bandar Abbas, Iran.
