We have learned of an incident involving the vessels MEGA HOPE a 2010 built 43,537gt bulk carrier, which was reported in collision with Chinese flagged ZHONG KAI WANG in the waters of Shidao, Weihai

MEGA HOPE is on laden voyage, reportedly loaded in China, carrying a cargo of Fertiliser. The vessel was holed in the foreward section on starboard side, resulting in flooding of No1 hold and complete damage of the cargo in the hold. ZHONG KAI WANG suffered damages to its bow.

MEGA HOPE was towed to Weihai Port, where it is berthed. ZHONG KAI WANG entered a local shipyard for repairs.

The nature and scope of the towage of MEGA HOPE has yet to be determined, and whether security is ultimately required or General Average may be declared is being investigated.
