Incident: Loss of Containers & Fire
We have learned of an incident involving the Vessel ZIM KINGSTON, a Maltese flagged, 2008 built, 40,030gt fully cellular containership. Having travelled from Korea and Taiwan and whilst approaching the West coast of Canada lost a number of containers overboard.
Following the incident, the Vessel anchored near Victoria at which time a fire broke out on board. The fire is believed to have started in a container carrying hazardous material that was damaged in the incident.
The 4,253TEU Vessel remains at anchorage with professional Salvors and Firefighters in attendance.
Given the extent of the damage it is anticipated that cargo interests will be required to provide Salvage Security and that recovery opportunities may exist.
