We have learned of an incident involving a collision between the vessels ZEPHYR LUMO and GALAPAGOS in the Strait of Malacca, approximately 14nm southwest of Kuala Sungai.
ZEPHYR LUMO, IMO 9864227, is a United Kingdom flag, 2021 built, 149,525gt fully cellular containership, en route Singapore to Suez Canal.
GALAPAGOS, IMO 9473169, is a Malta flag, 2010 built, 41,342gt bulk carrier, en route from Gladstone to Visakhapatnam.
The bulker reportedly suffered a rudder failure causing her to cross in front of ZEPHYR LUMO. The hull of GALAPAGOS was breached, resulting in an oil spill. Both vessels are reported to have sent distress signals and investigations are in progress.
