NEW CASUALTY – KMTC SURABAYA

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel KMTC SURABAYA, a Panama flag, 2018 built, 28,517gt, fully cellular containership which ran aground in the Belitung Island waters, northern Java Sea, off Indonesia, in the early hours of 27th November.

KMTC SURABAYA operates between Chinese, South Korean, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian ports, but could have been carrying transhipped cargo emanating from or destined for other locations.

The extent of damage is not yet known but it is possible that professional Salvage operations may be necessary &/or that General Average may be declared.
