NEW CASUALTY – COSCO PACIFIC

We have learned of an incident involving the vessel COSCO PACIFIC, a Hong Kong flag, 2008 built, 115,776gt fully cellular containership en route from Port Klang, Malaysia to Jawaharlal Nehru Port, India, having previously called at Singapore on a voyage commencing in China.

The vessel was in the Arabian Sea off the southwestern coast of India when fire broke out in a cargo hold on 4th January 2020. The scheduled voyage was interrupted and COSCO PACIFIC headed to Sri Lanka, berthing at Eastern Ferry Terminal, Colombo port on 6th January, where containers on fire were to be offloaded and the vessel monitored until response inspections are completed.
